Benjamin Trail NP XL .22 Cal Combo
Product Information Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston XL 1100 .22 Caliber Combo The Benjamin Trail .22 Combo is supplied with a Centerpoint 3-9X40AO scope and mounts which are securely anchored on the integrated picatinny style scope rail. The supplied scope utilizes a mil-dot reticle and turret style adjustment knobs. The Centerpoint is also parallax adjustable down to 30 feet via the front barrel of the scope tube. The ambidextrous hardwood stock comes fitted with a sling swivel on the front and a swivel stud near the toe of the stock along with a rubber butt pad to eliminate slippage when shouldered. The nitro piston system is very quiet and can be left cocked for much longer than a traditional spring system without any damage to the rifle power plant. The gas-ram also doesn't require an extended break-in period other than a 100 shots. Full power is achieved almost immediately. This is a big gun and generates high velocities with ultralight pellets. Crosman rates this model at 1100 fps, to obtain these speeds a non-lead pellet would have to be used and would prove impractical from an accuracy standpoint. A sample chronograph test with an all-lead Beeman Laser pellet of 12.35 grains yielded a 5 shot string of 933. 927 .936 .944 .936 fps. The Laser averaged 935.2 fps and 23.99 ft lbs of energy. That is very good in terms of power and velocity for a break-barrel .22 air rifle. Further chronograph results with the H&N Field Target Trophy 14.66 grains were 826 .833 .830 .832 .826 for an average of 829.4 fps and 22.39 ft lbs of energy. The Benjamin Trail trigger is two stage and when measured, broke at an average weight of 4 pounds 4 ounces which is a little on the heavy side but usable in it's own right. After a reasonable break-in period the trigger could be re-measured, and if still found to be on the stiff side, adjusted to a more delicate weight. The Nitro Trail has a LOP of 14 1/8" and an overall length of 48". The cocking effort is reasonable, for the return you get in downrange hitting energy, and comes in at +/- 39 lbs, or 61.5% efficiency rating which is the ratio of cocking effort vs muzzle kinetic energy achieved in foot pounds. As mentioned before, this is a big air gun and weighs the part. The Benjamin Nitro Trail weighs 8 lbs 10 oz bare and fully loaded with scope and rings - 9 lbs 13 oz. It's clear to see why crosman includes a sling and swivels with each rifle. What's in the box; rifle with scope rail attached, scope with bikini style covers, 2 piece rings with recoil lugs, black nylon sling with gold Benjamin insignia, crosman trigger lock and owner's manual.
